From the Telegraph of 13 Feb 2024: TODHUNTER Michael John Benjamin MBE DL. Died on 30th January 2024, aged 88. Beloved husband, father and grandfather. Funeral for immediate family only. Memorial Service at St Paul's, Knightsbridge, on Wednesday 5th June at 3 p.m.

He was s of Brig Edward Joseph TODHUNTER TD 1900-76 (who he succ as) head of that gentry family f/o Kingsmoor House and Agnes Mary (Betty) 1900-75 d of John SWIRE 1861-1933 sometime head of that gentry family of Hubbards Hall and Emily Hamilton Campbell KIDSTON 1867-1961 scion of that gentry family of Redenham Park. He m 1959 Caroline Francesca b 1938 reg Q2 London d of Maj William Walter DOWDING 1903-80 (see below) of The Manor, Manningford Bruce, Wilts by his 15 Dec 1927 m (Christ Church, Broadway) to Francesca Elizabeth Waller SHAW 1909-91, and had a son and two daus.

1. CHARLES JOSEPH DOWDING Todhunter b 19 Jan 1967 succeeds his father. He m 1993 Caroline Joanna b 1966 d of Timothy Gilbert Culcheth HOLCROFT 1934-2011 (gs of Sir George Harry HOLCROFT 1^st Bt 1856-1951) and his 1^st w Joanna Eve 1934-83 d of Adm Sir Stuart Sumner BONHAM-CARTER KCB CVO DSO 1889-1972 and as her 2^nd h Eve 1898-1979 d of Donald SHAW (mill owner), no issue.

Nelson Rockefeller, former Vice President of the US and longtime New York Governor (as well as a grandson of  John D. Rockefeller Sr.)  was married to Mary Todhunter Clark (1907-1999).

Mary's father , Percy Hamilton Clark (1873-1965) was the son of Edward White Clark and Mary Todhunter (nee Sill) Clark.

I was wondering if there was a connection of Mary to the Todhunter landed gentry family.

Mary Todhunter Clark's paternal grandmother, née Mary Todhunter SILL (10 IV 1835 - 18 I 1908), was the daughter of Joseph SILL (1801 - 2 XI 1854) and his wife, Jane TODHUNTER (30 VII 1801 - 27 I 1877), who was herself the daughter of Joseph TODHUNTER (10 XI 1767 - 12 X 1833) and his wife (married 1794), Mary WRIGHT (28 VII 1768 - 10 XII 1824).

Joseph Todhunter and his wife,  née Mary Wright, appear in the pedigree in Burke's Landed Gentry, although their daughter does not. Through their son Benjamin, they were the 3 x greats-grandparents of the late Mr Michael Todhunter; as they were also the 2 x greats-grandparents of Mary Todhunter Clark, this means that she was the late Mr Todhunter's third cousin once removed upwards.

I thought there might have been a connection, as that the only time I had previously ever heard of the name Todhunter, was in connection with the former VP's wife.
