He was s of Sir Eric Alfred BERTHOUD KCMG 1900-89 and Ruth Tilston 1901-88 d of Sir Charles BRIGHT 1863-1937 and Isabel d of Robert GOSLING 1831- of Hassobury (sometime head of that gentry family later of Thrimley House) and his 1st w Cecil Mary PARK d 1859. He m 1960 Marguerite Joand Richards 1941-2009 d of Col Robert Desmond Hensley PHAYRE 1915-2007 sometime head of that gentry family f/o Grange and Barbara Charlton b 1918 d of Maj-Gen Sir Charlton Watson SPINKS KBE DSO 1877-1959 and Marguerite Stuart COLEMAN 1888-1975, and had three sons and a dau.
