From the Times of 14 Nov 2020: RANKIN Sir Ian Niall died peacefully on 10th November 2020, aged 87, at home in Ashmansworth. Beloved husband of Prue, much-loved father of Zara Daisy, Gavin and Lochie, and grandfather and stepgrandfather of many.

He was s of Arthur Niall Talbot RANKIN (1904-65 s of 2nd Bt) and Lady Jean Margaret Florence DALRYMPLE (1905-2001, d of 12th Earl of STAIR (1879-1961)). He m 1st 1959 (div 1967) Alexandra (b 1937) d of Adm Sir Laurence George DURLACHER KCB OBE DSC (1904-86) and Rimma SASS-TISSOVSKY, and had a son (Gavin) and a dau (Zara). He m 2nd 1980 (div 1998) June (b 1942) d of Capt Thomas MARSHAM-TOWNSHEND (1914-ka1944, gt gs of 2nd Earl of ROMNEY (1777-1845) etc) and Averil Innes LOYD, and had a further son (Lachlan). He m 3rd 2013 as her 2nd h Prudence SPORBORG (formerly Mrs Martin Lane Fox). His elder son succeeds him.

[Sir] Gavin Niall RANKIN [5th Bt] (b 19 May 1962). He m 1995 Alexandra d of Dr Jurgen VON KNIERIEM and Monica SCHMIDT-CHIARI, and had three sons and a dau.
