Another update from 10 Downing Street press announcement 6 Sept as updated 2nd Oct (Ministerial Appointments Sept 2022)

Simon Murray has been appointed a Minister of State at the Home Office

"His Majesty has also been pleased to signify His intention of conferring a peerage of the United Kingdom for Life on Mr Murray"

It is not clear to me who Simon Murray is.  I was therefore comforted by the following on the Guardian website - "The Home Office was not able to clarify which Simon Murray has been appointed"

According to wikipedia (page created 8 Oct 2022)......

Simon Peregrine Gauvain Murray (born 2 August 1974) is a British barrister. He was appointed Minister of State at the Home Office on 7 October 2022, and is to be appointed a life peer. Called to the English bar in 2000, Murray practised public law at 39 Essex Chambers. He was educated at the University of St Andrews. He is a Conservative member of Gedling Borough Council, representing Newstead Abbey ward.


If this is correct then the new peer is the son of Nigel Ormiston Gauvain MURRAY (d 2002) and (m 1970 as her 1st h) Shirley b 1949 dau of Cdr Bernard Kieran Charles ARBUTHNOT DSC RN (1909-1975), scion of the Arbuthnot Baronets (1823) being descended from the 2nd son of the 1st Bt, and (m 1939) Rosemary Harold THOMPSON (d 1978).  He m 2007 Amelia May b 1983 dau of Hon Hubert Wentworth BEAUMONT b 1956 (son of the life peer Lord Beaumont of Whitley and scion of the Viscounts Allendale) by his 1st m 1980 (div 1998) to Katharine Emma ABEL SMITH  b 1961, of that vast gentry family and a descendant of QUEEN VICTORIA. THE KING has been pleased by Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm dated 21 October 2022 to confer the dignity of a Barony of the United Kingdom for life upon Simon Peregrine Gauvain Murray, by the name, style and title of BARON MURRAY OF BLIDWORTH, of Blidworth in the County of Nottinghamshire.
