FURNESS, Sir Stephen Roberts, 3rd Bt (1933-2024)

The Furness Baronetcy of Tunstall Grange, West Hartlepool is now shown on the online Roll as being vacant.  I contacted the Secretary of the SCB who has confirmed that Sir Stephen (aka Robin Furness) died on 20 November 2024.He was the son of Sir Christopher Furness, 2nd Bt (1900-1974) and (m 1930) Violet Flower Chipchase ROBERTS. He m 1961 Mary CANN and had a s and a d.  His son succeeds him as 4th Bt subject to proving his claim:-

(Sir) Michael Fitzroy Roberts FURNESS, 4th Baronet b 12 Oct 1962 m 1998 Katrine Louise OXTOBY and has issue:-

-  HARVEY FITZROY STEPHEN b 21 Dec 1999 (ha)

- Celia Eleanor b 2001

At present, a check of the line of succession yields only 5 names (DPB hasn't updated the page yet):

1. HARVEY FITZROY STEPHEN (B. 1999), son of the new baronet and ha.

2. Simon John (b. 1936), brother of the late (3rd) baronet.

3. Francis Christopher (b. 1963), nephew of the late baronet and #2.  He is the  son of Colin Gerard (1939-2007), youngest brother of the late baronet and #2.

4. John Wilson (b. 1952), from a different branch of the family, a grandson of Sir Stephen Wilson Furness, 1st Bt.

5. Christopher (b. 1990), only son of #4.

From the Daily Telegraph 26 November 2024 - FURNESS Sir Stephen Roberts Bt. Robin, died peacefully in hospital on 16th November, aged 91 years. Loving husband of Mary, devoted father to Michael and Serena and grandfather to Kate, Tristan, Harvey and the late Celia. Funeral Service at St Wilfrid's Church, Great Langton on Saturday 30th November at 11 a.m. Friends please meet at the church. Family flowers only please. Donations if desired may be given at the service to be shared between the Friends of the Friarage Hospital and St Wilfrid's Church.

He died on 16 Nov not 20 Nov as I had been told and mentioned in my post above.
