I need to contact the Earl of Cottenham. If anyone can help me to contact him, or at least get a message to him, I would greatly appreciate it. I concerns twenty-three manuscripts I purchased recently dating between 1724 and 1913, all of which pertain to his ancestral-history and estates.

 

I wrote to an address I found for him on the internet (Priory Manor, Kington St. Michael, CHIPPENHAM, Wiltshire, SN14 6JR) but the letter was returned as undeliverable.

The latest Debrett’s says he resides in China. Nothing more specific, but that explains the undeliverable letter.

His brother, the Hon. Sam Richard Pepys, is at 55A Wardo Av, London, SW6 6RA, and might be helpful to you.

Thank-you very much for the information. It is really helpful to me. 

Could you please advise me on the correct form of address for the Hon. Sam Richard Pepys, as at the start of a letter? Would it be “Dear Viscount Cottenham”, as he is the brother of an Earl?

The Hon. Sam Pepys, being a younger son of an Earl is addressed as plainly "Mr Pepys" … 

For info - should his elder brother (now the 9th Earl) have a son, he would be Viscount Crowhurst (courtesy title).
