Died peacefully on 18th February 2025, aged 82. Service of Thanksgiving to be held on Thursday 27th March at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church, Haddington and afterwards at Colstoun Coach House…. No flowers please.

He was s of 2^nd Baron MACLAY 1899-1969 and Nancy Margaret 1908-2014 d of Robert Coventry GREIG 1871-1951 scion of that gentry family of Binsness and Margaret Lucy 1882-1962 d of Charles COLBECK 1846-1903 by his 1880 m (All Saints & St John, Hertford) to Mary PHILLIPS 1853-1941. He m 1976 Elizabeth Anne d of George M BUCHANAN, and had two sons and a dau as above. His elder son succeeds him:

Hon Rebecca Delamere b 1979: m 2010 Samuel Martin GRAY, and has issue (not specified in DPB online, presumably at the couples’ request)

 The death notice mentions nine grandchildren. DPB online lists only one, the dau of the new Baron. Freya is one of 16 MACLAY births listed on the ScotlandsPeople website between 2009 and 2025. It’s not clear whether any of the other 15 are her siblings or cousins. I note one of the births includes the forename JOSEPH (Oscar Joseph Ma… b 2012 ref 731/504 Leith) which is a name given to all four Barons.

Assuming  the Hon. THOMAS MAXWELL has no sons, next in line is a first cousin,  Duncan Milton (b. 1974), the son of the 3rd Baron's late brother, David Milton (1944-2002).  He is married with 3 sons, ages 23, 21 and 19.

DPB Online has now updated this page.  

We can now account for more of the 3rd Baron's 9 grandchildren. 

DPB had previously mentioned only a daughter for the 4th Baron.  In fact, according to this update, the new Baron also has THREE sons: 

1. Hon. Max (Dublin) b. 2004

2. Hon. Ned (Sweden) b. 2005. Bartender

3. Hon Finn (b. 2007)

It is unclear if the mother of the sons is the same as the mother of his  daughter, as no other relationship partner/partners are mentioned.

The daughter of the 3rd Baron and sister of the 4th, the Hon. Rebecca, has 4 children has 4 sons from her marriage to Samuel Martin Gray:

1. Jake Milo b. 2011

2. Oscar Joseph M. b 2012

3. William Arthur b. 2015

4. Callum David A. b. 2022

That would account for a total of 8 grandchildren.

There are no children shown for the son of the 3rd Baron and brother of the 4th, the hp, the Hon. THOMAS MAXWELL.

DPB online states that Thomas Maclay and Emma Durlacher m c 2017.  They planned to marry on 23 July 2016 - johnlewisgiftlist.com (thx Ivana at nobiliana.de)

Joseph Paton Maclay, the presumed 4th Baron Maclay (born 6 March 1977), appears to be living in Sweden, at Hällesta Hall 1, 646 92 Gnesta.

Five other people live at the same address, including Kathryn Meyricka Bruton Good (born 10 January 1976), Max Oscar Banjo Maclay (born 2 October 2003), and Finnian August Maclay (born 2 August 2007). The family has been registered to the address since October / November 2012.

So there seems to be both "an heir and a spare" to the barony, assuming that the two sons are lawfully begotten. The website says that their parents are married, but it doesn't mention a date.

The other two people on the same address - though likely living in a separate building on the property - are Terese Silverberg (49) and her apparent daughter Disa Silverberg (18). They have been living there since June 2021.

There could be more people on the address, as the website is not allowed to show people younger than 16.
