He was s of Rev Canon Monier BICKERSTETH (1882-1976, scion of the Lancashire gentry family of that name, and of the BIGNOLD gentry family of Norwich (* see descent below)) and Inez Katharine JELF (1882-1936). He m 1955 Rosemary (1925-2009) d of Edward Carnegie CLEVELAND-STEVENS (c1883-1962) of Broadham Manor, Oxted, Surrey, and Muriel _ and had three sons and a dau. He died on 29 January 2018.

Rt Rev Edward Henry BICKERSTETH Bishop of Exeter (1825-1906) m (1st) 1848, his cousin, Rosa (1825-73) d of Sir Samuel BIGNOLD MP (1791-1875), scion of the gentry family of that name of Norwich.
