Alfred Wellesley is styled Viscount Wellesley as the 9th Duke's grandson. He would normally be styled Earl of Mornington, but his father continues to use that title rather than being Marquess of Douro.Edward Sackville is in direct line to become Earl de la Warr after his father(Lord Buckhurst) and grandfather die.

malcolm,

It's actually Alfred's older brother, Arthur, who is styled Viscount Wellesley.

I find it interesting that the Hon. Alfred's older brother Arthur is 2nd heir to the Duke of Wellington in all of his British, Portuguese, and Dutch/Belgian titles, but not to the Spanish dukedom of Ciudad Rodrigo. He is a younger twin of Lady Mae, who will have the right of succession to that title when her generation's turn comes. The Spanish changed the laws of succession. Of course, she may decline, when her time comes, if she decides that the title should remain part of the Wellington package. Or not.

Though like the previous Duke of Wellington, the present and the next may give their Spanish nobility to their son in their lifetime.

If the King of Spain, (or his daughter the next Queen of Spain), through his minister, approves. Any attempt at circumventing the law of succession promulgated in 2006, retroactive to 2005, just might be denied by the Ministry.

Just found this in the Wikipedia article: "Only subsidiary titles may be ceded; the principal title must be reserved for the senior heir. The cession of titles may only be done with the approval of the monarch."This would preclude the Dukedom of Ciudad Rodrigo being ceded away from Lady Mae.

Robert,
When the 6th Duke died in action in 1943 he was succeeded by his sister Lady Anne Wellesley in the Dukedom of Ciudad Rodrigo. She ceded it to her uncle the 7th Duke of Wellington in 1949.Presumably an agreement will be reached in the family about whether she cedes the title to her brother when their father(presently the Earl of Mornington) dies.Cession seems to be(and I profess no expertise in this) relatively normal-so the Duke of Alba has ceded the Dukedom of Huescar to his son, and the late Duchess of Medinaceli ceded ducal titles to all of her sons as Dukes of Santisteban del Puerto,Feria & Segorbe. Her grandson, son of her eldest daughter, succeeded her by cession in the Dukedom of Medinaceli.
Whilst females have always had a right to succession,it is only since 2005 that it has not been priority male primogeniture.

Certainly her family will have some say, but if in her turn she wants the title she will have 'right of first refusal', so to speak. her grandfather the present duke can either keep it until he dies, or cede it, but only to the heir-apparent, the present Earl of Mornington. He, in his turn, must either keep it to his death, or cede it to Lady Mae. A post up there somewhere seemed to say that the present holder could cede it to Lady Mae's brother, who will, in his turn, inherit the remainder of the titles, but this is wrong. The ducado and the title of grandee must go to the direct lawful heir, ultimately Lady Mae, unless she agrees to pass it on, or does not apply to succeed within he specified time. in which case the next heir-presumptive could apply.
I suspect that she will likely pass it back to her brother, but may apply to succeed, enjoy being the Duchess, and then, like Lady Anne, cede it.
Since all of the titles are essentially a memorial to the Iron Duke, I do suspect that family pride will keep them together.
