From the Telegraph of 16 Aug 2023: BRADBURY BRADBURY John (Baron Bradbury of Winsford) died peacefully at home on August 8th. Deeply missed by his devoted wife Susan, sons John and Ben, son and daughter-in-law Juan and Aliboo and grandchildren Isaac, Pantha and Indiana, he was a man of tremendous integrity and wisdom. There will be a private funeral and memorial to follow... Donations welcome to the wonderful Weldmar Hospicecare.

He was s of 2^nd Baron BRADBURY 1914-94 and his 1^st w (her 1^st h, she m 2^nd 1955 Eric St John-Height 1912-89) Joan M 1916-88 d of Walter Dingle KNIGHT of Adlestone, Surrey c1883-1948 and Mollie ROWLANDS. He m 1968 Susan A b Nov 1942 d of William LIDDIARD 1897-1968 of East Shefford, Berks by his c1935 m reg Q1 to Florence Edith PITHER 1908-67, and had two sons. The eldest son succeeds him:

JOHN TIMOTHY Bradbury 4^th Baron BRADBURY has yet to establish his claim and appear on The Peerage Roll, b 16 Jan 1973. He is m or civil partnered to Juan J TOCINO, no issue. Both resident in Dulwich, London according to the 2015 Electoral Roll.

Thank God, he won't, once traditonal honours give way to modern decadence that will be the end of them. There can't be two 'lords' only lord and lady.

Ahhh if only he puts in an application to the King for a style, CIII being so woke, he likely grant it.   Similar to those where a title is inherited by a kinsman/women and the siblings lodge to have their style acknowledged.

Male spouses of peeresses in their own right seem to have soldiered on untitled thus far. I haven't hear of any movement to entitle them.

Of more concern is the pressure to abandon the specified remainders of all titles in favor of oldest child succession. That will cause havock. The 'k' is for emphasis.

We seem to manage perfectly fine with multiple ladies ("Lady London", the current Lord London's wife; "Mary, Lady London", his ex-wife; "Sarah, Lady London", his widowed mother; "Catherine, Lady London", his late uncle's widow; etc).

I really don't see what the issue would be with allowing husbands/civil partners of male peers to use a similar title: the new Lord Bradbury's spouse could be "Juan, Lord Bradbury" without any problem at all. Likewise for the husbands of female peers.

The idea that only a man holding a title in his own right can be a lord is actually the more novel approach: in the Middle Ages the husbands of suo jure peeresses were treated as peers jure uxoris (perhaps most famously Warwick the Kingmaker, who was only Earl of Warwick through his marriage to the suo jure 15th Countess of Warwick, daughter of the 1st (and last) Duke of Warwick).

My comment is not related to this baron but I think a time must come when we ask ourselves why we allow people to be considered noble when it is only their ancestors who achieved somrthing.

We were taken to the cleaners ( financially) by a man who in court papers said hé could not afford a new fridge so his third wife's children should fund him.

( Yet he can afford Boodles..)

The same man is branded aristocrat by newspapers and appears in the peerage.

You must ask yourself ...

And after hypothetical divorce he is still Julian, Lord Bradbury. After remarriage to a Mary Smith, he is still Julian, Lord Bradbury and his wife is Lady Bradbury. Nice.

I do not know why, but certain members of this group have an uncanny penchant for pouncing upon every “social deviance” as it were the plague from Egypt. All of us here are gathered for the study and news regarding the peerage, baronetage and related fields. It is not for us to have an opinion on the personal lives of individuals, lest we permit others to do so for ourselves. Nor are we constrictors of the personal lives of private individuals. Let a man do as he so wish, lest the accuser be left tarnished.

As to Malta’s suggestion for a spouse of a peer being granted the style and precedence of their spouse’s peerage rank, there are a few anomalous examples in past history for peers, though they cannot be relied upon for this question. More recently, there are the Royal Warrants granting the style and precedence of the wife of a baron unto the following: (1) Letitia, widow of Sir Thomas Borthwick, 1st Bt in 1913; Gladys, widow of Hon William Amherst Cecil (son of the 2nd Baroness Amherst of Hackney) in 1920; (3) Alice, widow of Hon John Beresford Campbell (son of the 3rd Baron Stratheden and Campbell) in 1921; (4) Cara, widow of Urban Hanlon Broughton MP in 1929 and (5) Pamela, wife of Hon William Howarth Vestey (son of the 2nd Baron Vestey) in 1955. Alternatively, one could give the style and precedence of the children of peers unto the spouse of a person in a same-sex marriage, though that would prove problematic both in the current frame of the peerage and socio-political considerations of the peerage.

Barony of Bradbury in the Peerage of the United Kingdom The Lord Chancellor reported that John Timothy Bradbury had established his claim to the Barony of Bradbury in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. The Clerk of the Parliaments was accordingly directed to enter Lord Bradbury on the register of hereditary peers maintained under Standing Order 9(4).
