From the Telegraph of 28 Aug 2023: McCONNELL Diana Mary CBE DL (née Temple). Died unexpectedly but peacefully on 19th August 2023 as she approached her 80th birthday. Wife of Robert, mother of Anne and Bruce, grandmother to Emma and Lucy and brother to Guy Temple. Diana completed a life of service for Cheshire as High Sheriff - Chairman Cheshire County Council - Council Chairman at Chester Cathedral - Hospital and School Governor. A Service of Celebration for family and friends at St Michael's Church, Shotwick, Cheshire… on 7th September 2023 at 12 noon (dress with some colour). St Michael's is a small parish church with limited seating. No flowers please, donations can be gift aided to St Michael's Tower Restoration Project. She was d of Sir John (Jack) Meredith TEMPLE 1910-94 and Nancy Violet 1915-99 d of Brig-Gen Robert William HARE CMG DSO 1872-1953 (2xgt gs of 1st Earl of LISTOWEL 1751-1837, as well the 1st Baron COLNBROCK 1754-95) and Helen Mary 1880-1972 d of Lt-Col Guy Newcomen ATKINSON 1847-90 sometime head of that Irish gentry family of Cangort, King’s Co and Frances Elizabeth c1845-1929 d of Hon Lawrence Harman KING-HARMAN 1816-75 (gs of 2nd Earl of KINGSTON 1754-99, gs of 1st Earl of ROSSE 1749-1807 (by his w a dau of 1st Earl of KINGSTON 1726-97), 2xgt gs of 19th Earl of KILDARE 1675-1744 (who was f of 1st Duke of LEINSTER 1722-73), 3xgt gs of 3rd Earl of INCHIQUIN 1666-1719, etc etc) and Mary Cecilia d 1904 d of James Raymond JOHNSTONE of Alva 1768-1830 (gs of Sir James JOHNSTONE 3rd Bt 1697-1772 of Westerhall and gt gs of 4th Lord ELIBANK 1677-1736) and Mary Elizabeth c1778-1843 (d of Montague CHOLMELEY 1743-1843 who was f of Sir Montague CHOLMELEY 1st Bt 1772-1831). She m 18 Dec 1965 Robert Frederick b 1937 s of Arthur Frederick Vavasour MCCONNELL 1903-61 and Pamela Mary 1901-83 d of Hubert Edgar HUGHES 1867-1946 (yst s of Sir Alfred HUGHES 9th Bt 1825-1898 & f of Sir Richard Edgar HUGHES 13th Bt 1897-1970) and Mary Charlotte HARRISON d 1941, and had a son (Frederick Bruce b 22 June 1970) and a dau (Anne Helen b 22 March 1968 m 1993 reg Q2 Cheshire Alexander A SMITH and had issue Emma Elizabeth b 26 Jan 1999 (Times 4 Feb)) as above.

The following extract is from Hart's Army List ed. 1911, pg 1034, under heading War Services,- Active List
related to Brig- Gen Robert William Hare CMG DSO, then as Captain:
"Hare, Capt. (Norf. R.) - Took part in the operations in S. Africa, 1896- Mtd, infantry.  Medal.  Served  in the
S. African War, 1899- 1902- Spec. Offr, (including service with Rhodesia Regt.);  afterwards on staff. Despatches
, Lond. Gaz..10 Sept.01  and 29 July 02. Queen's Medal with 5 clasps, and King's Medal with 2 clasps. DSO. Placed on the
list of Officers considered qualified for Staff employment in consequence of service on the Staff in the Field."
