Fortune Stanley

Fortune (née Hugh Smith) cook, gardener and philanthropist. Beloved
wife of the late Michael Stanley. Died peacefully at home in
Witherslack on Wednesday 17th March 2010. Funeral service will be held
at St Paul's Church on Friday 26th March at 2.30pm. Please send all
flowers to Halecat.

She was the dau of Owen Hugh SMITH (1869-1958) of that gentry family
formerly of Midhurst and his wife and cousin Emmeline dau of Eustace
ABEL SMITH of that gentry family of Longhills. Her father's elder
brother Vian Hugh SMITH was cr Baron Bicester UK 1938. She m 1951 Capt
Michael Charles STANLEY MBE (1921-90) son of Col Rt Hon Oliver
Frederick George Stanley MC MP (son of the 17th Earl of DERBY and Lady
Alice Maude Olivia MONTAGU (dau of 7th Duke of Manchester)). They had
two sons who, between them, have produced 4 grandsons, all of whom are
distantly in line to the old English earldom.
