Yesterday I was reading that the earls FitzWilliam held at least 130,000 acres which are still held by their female descendants. What I wanted to know is which earl currently holds the largest land holdings in terms of acreage?

Uninstructed I would suggest it would be one of the Scottish Earls or Countesses, probably the Countess of Sutherland.Others 2ho might qualify would be Seafield,Stair and Moray.
Incidentally the bulk of the Firtzwilliam lands were in Ireland, the Yorkshire acres being about 28,000 from memory although they generated most of the income due to coal mining.

Working on 15 year-old data, in Scotland only, and not just earls:

Duke of Buccleuch, 104k acres
Duke of Westminster, 95k
Earl of Seafield, 85k
Countess of Sutherland, 83K
Viscount Cowdray, 65k
Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktum, 63k
Duke of Argyll, 61k
Duke of Roxburgh, 55k
HM The Queen (Balmarol),50k
Earl of Cawdor, 50k

Some of the above also own land elsewhwere in the UK; some own valuable small acreages, eg city centre and commercial properties.

There was talk in the Times Rich List of the earls of Lonsdale owning 80k around Cumbria.

According to Kevin Cahill's book "Who owns Britain" the list in order of acreage is:-
1.Earl of Seafield               91,000 acres
2.Countess of Sutherland  83,229 acres
3.Earl of Lonsdale             70,000 acres
4.Earl Granville                  62,300 acres
5.Earl of Cawdor                56,400 acres
6.Earl of Dalhousie            47,200 acres
7.Earl of Stair                     43,674 acres
8.Earl of Wemyss              42,700 acres
9.Earl of Mansfield             33,800 acres
10.Earl of Airlie                  33,300 acres
11.Earl of Powis                30,000 acres
11.Earl of Home                30,000 acres
13.Earl of Moray                29,400 acres
14.Earl of Yarborough       28,000 acres
15.Earl of Leicester           26,000 acres
16.Earl of Iveagh               25,000 acres
17.Earl of Rosebery          20,900 acres
18.Earl of Strathmore        17,300 acres
19.Earl of Haddington       13,000 acres
20.Earl of Halifax               13,000 acres
21.Earl Spencer                 13,000 acres

Just how accurate these figures are is open to question.
The other matter to mention is that acreage does not equate to income. The income from Scottish acres in much less than the income from English acres.
