From the Telegraph of 9 Jan 2026: READ Charles Patrick 'Pat' died peacefully at home, on 21st December 2025, aged 83. Much loved husband of Suzi, father of Jason and grandfather of Poppy and Sam. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Private family cremation. Service of thanksgiving to be announced at a later date.

He was s of Sir Charles David READ 1902-57 and his 2 w (Frances) Edna 1906-2003 d of Robert Charles WILSON 1863-1912 and Frances Lucinda 1869- d of James KELLETT c1840- > s of James KELLETT 1796-1853 > s of Robert KELLETT 1765-1848 > s of Elizabeth CODDINGTON (Mrs James Kellett) d 1817 scion of that Irish gentry family. He m 1966 reg Q3 Sussex Susan (Suzi) V[iner] b c1943 reg Q1 Sussex d of Brian Viner EDSALL 1909-86 by his 1934 m reg Q2 Surrey to Gladys Mary WOMBILL 1913-2009, and had a son Jason Patrick Jeremy READ b July 1968: m 1998 reg Q4 Devon Sophie L d of Richard LOWE of Dogmersfield, Hants and had a dau Poppy Florence I READ b 20 June 2002 (Times 29 June) and a son Sam Patrick B READ b 2005 reg Q2 London as above.

The late Mr Read was a former Chief Executive of Young and Co's Brewery plc. His daughter-in-law, née Sophie Louise LOWE (born 1969) is the younger daughter of Capt Richard Higginson LOWE and his wife (married 23 III 1963, as her first husband), Roseanne GREEN-PRICE (born 30 VII 1943), the only daughter of Sir John GREEN-PRICE, 4th Bt (26 VIII 1908 - 30 IX 1964) and his first wife (married 19 I 1938) and first cousin once removed downwards, Irene Marian LLOYD (13 III 1919 - 27 IX 1955), who was herself the second daughter of Maj Sir (Ernest) Guy Richard LLOYD, 1st Bt (7 VIII 1890 - 22 IX 1987), MP (Conservative) for East Renfrewshire, 1940-59.
