He was the son of Sir John CAMERON KT DSC (Scottish Lord of Session as Lord Cameron) (1900-1996).  He was appointed Lord Advocate in 1984 when we was created a life peer and was sworn of the Privy Council.  He retired from that office in 1989 when he became a Scottish Lord of Session until 2003.  He retired from the Lords 2016
