+ Lord Hugh Hastings Russell (1923-2005)

brother of the 13th Duke, uncle of the 14th Duke and great-uncle of the
15th Duke, died suddenly at his home, 6 January 2005. He was aged 81.
Lord Hugh Hastings Russell was born 29 March, 1923, second son of the
12th Duke of Bedford (1888-1953), of Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire, by his
wife Louisa Crommelin Roberta Jowitt Whitwell (who d. 1960); and was
educated at Christ's College, Cambridge.
Career: Lord Hugh, of Dolau, Lllandrindod Wells, Powys, qualified as
A.R.I.C.S. (Professional Associateof the Royal Institution of Chartered
Surveyors).
He married in 1957, Rosemary, daughter of Keith Freeling Markby, of
Treworder, Blisland, Bodmin, Cornwall,by whom eh had a son, Mark Hugh
(b. 1960), and a daughter, Karen Diana (b. 1961).
The Daily Telegraph death notice says he was: "father of Mark and
Karen, grandfather of Chloe, Laurie, Katya, Alexander, Hester and
Alice; step-grandfather of William."
A thanksgiving service took place at St Mary Magdalene, Bleddfa, Powys,
20 January, 2005.
