Martin - The engagement is announced between Cosmo, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Tom Macfarlane, of Combe, Somerset, and Lindsey, daughter of Mr William Martin, of Pasadena, California, and Mrs Kelley Husby, of Houston, Texas.

Cosmo Pascoe T[homas] (b 1987) s of Thomas P MACFARLANE and Cathryn Harriet (b 1958) d of Hon Richard Archer Alan WINDSOR-CLIVE (1928-2014), scion of the PLYMOUTH earls, and Joanna Mary (b 1935 reg Q2 Westminster) d of Edward Corbet WOODALL OBE (1903-72) and his wife a scion of the CRAWLEY BOEVEY Bts.

The couple m 2018 reg April, Somerset. I can find no Macfarlane (mother Martin) births up to the end of 2023 on the GRO fiches in the British Library.

It is apparent that Cosmo Macfarlane's father is Thomas Parlan MACFARLANE (born 1954), the fifth son of (John Embleton) Craig MACFARLANE (14 II 1902 - 26 II 1969) and his wife (married 1935), (Pearl) Elspeth BALFOUR (31 I 1913 - 26 III 2004), of that landed gentry family of Dawyck.

 

Elspeth Balfour was the eldest child of Capt Archibald Roxburgh BALFOUR, MC (13 IV 1883 - 21 VIII 1958) and his first wife (married 12 IX 1908, divorced 1935), Pearl Isabel Alice PRICE (c.1881/2 - 19 III 1951), a great-granddaughter of Sir Rose PRICE, 1st Bt (21 XI 1768 - 24 IX 1834). Capt Archibald Balfour and his second wife (married 19 XII 1935), Lilian Helen COOPER (5 I 1906 - 18 V 1989) were the parents of Neil Roxburgh BALFOUR (born 12 VIII 1944), whose first wife (married 23 IX 1969, as her second husband) was HRH Princess Elisabeth of Yugoslavia (born 7 IV 1936), a first cousin of HRH The Duke of Kent, and a second cousin of HM The KING.
