The D-Day 75th Anniversary ceremonies has prompted me to ask this question:

Outside of the Duke of Edinburgh, are there any other living peers/baronets who are WWII veterans?

Thanks.

Hi Brooke,

Other than the Duke of Edinburgh, the following I have identified as WWII veterans (though I imagine there are many more but because their profile is somewhat less there is nothing online about their service):

Alun Arthur Gwynne Jones, Baron Chalfont b. 1919
George Hugh Boscawen, 9th Viscount Falmouth b. 1919
Nathaniel Thomas Allen Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes, 21st Baron Saye and Sele b. 1920
Sir Leslie Lynn Marr, 2nd Baronet b. 1922
Pamela Sharples, Baroness Sharples b. 1923
Andrew Douglas Alexander Thomas Bruce, 11th Earl of Elgin and 15th Earl of Kincardine b. 1924
Edmund Oslac Ironside, 2nd Baron Ironside b. 1924
Anthony Martin Grosvenor Christopher, Baron Christopher b. 1925
Thomas Edward Graham, Baron Graham of Edmonton b. 1925
John Christopher Loder, 3rd Baron Wakehurst b. 1925
Michael Sydney Cedric Brudenell-Bruce, 8th Marquess of Ailesbury b. 1926
David George Coke Patrick Ogilvy, 8th (or 13th) Earl of Airlie b. 1926
Sir John Alexander Noble Graham, 4th Baronet b. 1926

Including the DofE, that's 14, but there must surely be at least a few dozen others.

Thanks,
James

colinp, thanks for the additions.

I didn't realize so many were still (thankfully) living.

With Baron Christopher recently passing the only peer to serve in WW2 is Andrew Douglas Alexander Thomas Bruce, 11th Earl of Elgin and 15th Earl of Kincardine b. 1924

That makes sense.

Even a peer who is 95 today, would have been only born in 1931, far too young to have served.

No-one has mentioned 9th Baron Walsingham in this thread.  He was born 1925 and I believe is still living.

According to Debrett's 2008 he was Lt Col (ret) RA; 1939-45 War, Palestine 1947, Diplo Ser 1950, Korea 1951-52 (MC), Malaya 1954-56, Cyrpus and Suez 1956, Aden 1957-58 and 1961-63, Far East (Borneo) 1963-65.
