_.Catherine Countess of Clanwilliam, who died 22 January, 2014, was the widow of John Edward Carson Meade, 6th Earl of Clanwilliam (1914-89) (Peerage of Ireland, cr 1776).

She was the former Catherine Loyd, scion of that landed family, third daughter of Colonel Arthur Thomas Loyd, OBE, MC, of Lockinge, Wantage, Berkshire, by his wife the former Dorothy Willert, and married the then Lord Gillford, 1 Dec, 1948. Her husband succeeded to the family honours on his father's death, 23 Jan 1953, and died in 1989, when he was succeeded by his cousin.

Lady Clanwilliam was the mother of six daughters, Lady Selina, Lady Mary, Lady Julia, Lady Laura, Lady Katharine and Lady Sophia.

Funeral at St George's Church, Preshute, Marlborough, Wilts, Wed 29 Jan.

For thirty years she was the chatelaine of Montalto,ballynahinch Co Down.her husband was the Lord Lieutenant.Her second daughter is married to the Earl of Belmore.

A Clematis has been named after her.
