Following Boris Johnson's appointment as British Prime Minister, there was a discussion about Prime Ministers related to the Monarch posted here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/peerage-news/boris$20johnson%7Csort:date/peerage-news/er24fcooNOw/829hud83CgAJ

I thought it would be interesting to check the relationship of the Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP to The QUEEN. He was the unsuccessful candidate in the recent contest for the leadership of the Conservative party.

Turns out he's The QUEEN'S 4th cousin once removed

Had he become Prime Minister instead of Boris Johnson, he would have been The QUEEN'S closest relative so far to hold the office during her reign. Of course... he may yet become PM! Here are the descents:

THE QUEEN'S DESCENT
Abel Smith MP (1717-88)
George Smith (1765-1836)
Oswald Smith (1794-1863)
Frances Dora Smith (1832-1922)
14th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne (1855-1944)
Queen ELIZABETH The Queen Mother (1900-2002)
The QUEEN (b 1926)

JEREMY HUNT'S DESCENT:
Abel Smith MP (1717-88)
George Smith (1765-1836) m Frances Mary (1767-1864) d of Sir John Parker Mosley 1st Bt (1732-98) - see below
/
Frances Mary Smith (1798-)
/
John Henry MASTER (1825-1919)
/
Mabel Louisa MASTER (1872-) m 1893 (reg Q2 Surrey) Thomas Charles Hunt (c1861-1940)
/
Brig John Montgomerie Hunt (1897-1980)
/
Adm Sir Nicholas John Streynsham Hunt (1930-2013)
/
Rt Hon Jeremy Richard Streynsham Hunt MP (b 1966)

Jeremy Hunt's ABEL SMITH ancestry gives him many other interesting relationships/connections with other people (Lord CARRINGTON, the Duchess of GRAFTON, Sir Henry & Lady May ABEL SMITH - I could go on and on). But I've pulled out one other: their common descent from Sir John Parker MOSLEY 1st Bt means Jeremy Hunt is a 5th cousin once removed of Sir Oswald Ernald MOSLEY 6th Bt, sometime Conservative MP and later leader of the "Blackshirts". Here's Sir Oswald's descent:

Sir John Parker Mosley 1st Bt (1732-98) (father of Frances Mary Mosley - see above)
/
Oswald Mosley (1761-89, dvp)
/
Sir Oswald Mosley 2nd Bt (1785-1871)
/
Sir Tonman Mosley 3rd Bt (1813-90)
/
Sir Oswald Mosley 4th Bt (1848-1915)
/
Sir Oswald Mosley 5th Bt (1873-1928)
/
Sir Oswald Mosley 6th Bt (1896-1980) - Leader of the British Union of Fascists ("Blackshirts")
He married into the CURZON and MITFORD families and his son succ. his Curzon aunt as 3rd Baron RAVENSDALE in 1966, before succ. his father as 7th Mosley Bt in 1980.

Hello
Not quite sure what you're asking here but it's true that Richard L-G is an Abel Smith descendant/related to The QUEEN. He's the first descendant of Queen VICTORIA to sit in the House of Commons.

Just a minor addendum as I update my notes (I previously had Jeremy Hunt as a relation of the Fawley Hunts based on scant evidence)- BLG 1952 has the pedigree of Hunt of Boreatton, Salop., Jeremy Hunt being of a cadet branch (separating from the senior line via a third son, Rev. Thomas Hunt [1786-1860]). Ancestral marriages with the Paget family (Marquesses of Anglesey) and Master family of Barrow Green House; other connections, on a skim through the pedigree, are Amphlett of Wychbold, Viscounts Clifden, Wilbraham of Delamere, Barons Brabazon of Tara, Barons Rosmead, Barons Kenyon, Packe of Prestwold, Eyton of Eyton, etc.
