I thought it would be useful to categorise a list of current elected hereditary peers by half-decade of birth:

There are now no elected hereditaries born in the 1920s, and the number born before 1945 has dropped from 30 to 23 in only three years, whilst the number born in 1955 or later has grown from 25 to 31 in the same period.

Updated (error in yesterday's post) - there are two vacancies amongst the cross-benchers. I continue to not include the Duke of Norfolk (1956), but do include Lord Carrington (1948) as he continues to sit in his elected seat rather than the ex-officio seat.

Whilst the bill to remove the remaining hereditary peers continues to await final passage, I thought I would give the current running totals (I had planned to do this when the bill takes effect, but have got tired of waiting!). I do not include the Duke of Norfolk (b 1956), I do include Lord Carrington (b 1948).

A further 2 vacancies are expected with pending retirements: The Earl of Lytton (XB, b 1950) and The Earl Attlee (Con, b 1956)

The number born before 1945 is now 12 (it was 30 in 2018, 23 in 2021, 16 in 2023)
