I learned at a lunch yesterday that Lord Salisbury's heir, Viscount Cranborne b 1970, is married. They also said the couple have two daus (ie no sons). The marriage is not in Lord C's Who's Who entry but I've found the Daily Mail piece confirming the marriage was due on 31 Dec 2021 (see below).
The bride is Constance Mary Alabama b 1990 d of Margaret Sophia Laura WAUGH
b 1962 (gd of the novelist Evelyn WAUGH 1903-66 sometime head of that gentry
family of Piers Court, as well gt gd of 6th Earl of ONSLOW
1913-71) and Julian s of Vice-Adm Sir Philip Alexander WATSON KBE LVO 1919-2009
and Jennifer TANNER.
I'm going to the BL later to check
the GRO fiches to see if there were any births to the couple last year.
I'll also check the 2021 m index (not available online) for the
marriage. The GRO online births up to the end of 2023 show no
G-Cecil/Watson births. There's a Poppy Clara M G-C b 2022 reg Q4
Ken&Chelsea - but doesn't show the mother's family name. The fiche
should show me who her mother is. A work in progress!
Ned finds his Waugh bride
Daily Mail 30 Dec 2021 [author Evelyn Waugh - is that the late writer Alexander Evelyn Michael Waugh 1963-2024?]
ARISTOCRATS are usually busy with their shotguns at this
time of year, but the Marquess of Salisbury heir, Viscount Cranborne, has his
sights set on a wedding instead.
I hear that Ned Cecil, as the 51-year-old is known to chums,
is due to exchange vows on New Year's Eve [31 Dec 2021] with journalist
Constance Watson – great-granddaughter of satirical novelist Evelyn Waugh – who’s
two decades his junior.
Cuddly Ned, who has a daughter from a previous relationship,
stands to inherit a £335 million fortune which includes one of England’s
largest historic properties, 17th century Hatfield House in
Hertfordshire, and its £150 million art collection. His father became a pariah
among many Tories after making a secret deal with Tony Blair to axe hereditary
peers from the Lords, as long as 92 of them kept their seats. Curiously, the
family decline to comment on the happy news.
