I'm just curious whether anyone knows the circumstances of her parents' courting and wedding in the Netherlands, shortly before the Germans invaded, between a British and a German aristocrat? It must have been harrowing times.

I'm not sure if there is an answer here to your question, Paul, but in doing some research, I found some interesting information.

Ursula von Pannwitz's mother, Catalina Carolina Friedericke Georgine Roth, was born of Jewish descent in Rostock in 1876,  She married Walter von Pannwitz in 1908.

Her family owned a substantial amount of land in Argentina, and she was granted Argentinian citizenship in 1919. 

In 1933, Ursula was also granted Argentinan citizenship.

Thanks.. very interesting. So perhaps Ursula was fleeing the Nazis?

Ursula's agnatic family was quite ancient. The geneaolgies I have seen take it back to one Dietmar von Pannwitz who died in the 1200s.

Hi Paul.

As if the story you posted  couldn't have gotten any more intriguing, finding out that Ursula's mother was of Jewish ancestry, considering the times, made it even more so.  My guess is that her heritage played a factor in her acquiring Argentinian citizenship in 1933.

I also note, with interest, that Ursula's brother, Walter, was killed in World War I, and that her mother Catalina received Argentinian citizenship 4 years later.
