From the Times of 23 May 2025: THOMPSON Geoffrey Hewlett, former bishop of Exeter (1985-1999), died 13th May 2025, aged 95. Funeral at St Theobald’s church, Great Musgrave, CA17 4DW, 11.30am, 30th May.

He was s of Lt-Col R R THOMPSON MC. He m 1954 Elisabeth Joy Fausitt b 1932 d of Capt Geoffrey Fausitt TAYLOR d 1982 and Frances Margaret 1894-1979 d of d of Maj-Gen Edward Ranulph KENYON 1854-1937 (gt gs of 1^st Baron KENYON 1732-1802) and Katharine Mary McCrea 1856-1908 d of Maj-Gen John Cromie Blackwood DE BUTTS 1826-86 by his 17 April 1854 m (St Martin’s, Guernsey, CI) to Katherine Carterette 1831-1909 d of Rear Adm Robert Coutart MCCREA 1793-1875 and Charlotte 1795-1897 d of Rev Nicholas Peter DOBREE 1755-1843 scion of that gentry family of The Priory and Charlotte 1763-1860 d of Matthew SAUMAREZ 1718-78 (f of Vice Adm 1^st Baron DE SAUMAREZ 1757-1836), and had two sons and two daus.
