From the Daily Telegraph 21 December 2021 (in print but not yet online) ARCHER - Catherine Mary (nee Overton) died on 30th November 2021, aged 87.  Wife to Ronnie, mother to James, Michael, Edward and Mary.  Much loved grandmother and family matriarch.  Funeral at St Mary's Church, Thundridge on 4th January at 11.30 am....

She was the dau of Marcus RC OVERTON.  She m 1959 Ronald Walter b 1929 son of Lt-Cdr Norman Ernest ARCHER (1892-?) and (m 1925) Hon Ruth Evelyn dau of Herbert Pike PEASE, 1st Baron Daryngton (cr 1923 ext 1994) (1866-1949) and (m 1894) Alice Mortimer LUCKOCK (d 1948)

The late Mrs Archer's father, Lt Marcus Reginald Cholmeley OVERTON (30 IV 1901 - 7 VI 1940), died on active service in the Second World War. He had married Mrs Archer's mother, Kathleen ("Toni") WARD (1903 - 1998), on 16 July 1932.

Lt Overton was the third son of the Rev Canon Frederick Arnold OVERTON (15 VII 1862 - 11 IX 1935), Rector of East Barnet and Canon of St Albans, and his wife (married 16 VI 1891), Ella Georgina EDERSHEIM (1863 - 14 VII 1947), daughter of the noted Biblical scholar, the Rev Alfred EDERSHEIM, DD (7 III 1825 - 16 III 1889). His older brother, Lt Thomas Darwin OVERTON (18 VII 1894 - 31 VII 1915), was killed in action at Gallipoli; their eldest brother, Sir Arnold Edersheim OVERTON, KCB, KCMG, MC (8 I 1893 - 10 IX 1975), was a senior civil servant.

The Rev Canon Frederick Arnold Overton was the eldest child of the Rev Samuel Charlesworth OVERTON (1837 - 1909) and his wife (married 1861), Harriet Emma FOX (1837 - 25 V 1922), daughter of the Rev William Darwin FOX (23 IV 1805 - 8 IV 1880), and his first wife, Harriet FLETCHER (1799 - 1842), daughter of Lt-Col Sir Richard FLETCHER, 1st Bt (1768 - 31 VIII 1813). The Rev William Darwin Fox was a second cousin of Charles Robert DARWIN (12 II 1809 - 19 IV 1882), the naturalist.

Mrs Archer's husband, Ronald Walter ARCHER, died on 6 February 1992. His father, Lt-Cdr Norman Ernest ARCHER, CMG, OBE (27 VIII 1892 - 15 II 1970), was the youngest child of Walter Edward ARCHER, CB (4 VII 1855 - 19 VIII 1917) and his wife (married 17 X 1878), Alice Liona MURRAY, a great-great-granddaughter of the 3rd Duke of Atholl.
