Sparrow - The engagement is announced between James, son of Lady Mowbray and Stourton and the late Lord Mowbray and Stourton, of Allerton Park, North Yorkshire, and Anna, daughter of Mr and Mrs Edward Sparrow, of East Molesey, Surrey.

Hon James Charles Peter STOURTON (b 12 Dec 1991) who succ his father 27th Baron MOWBRAY &c (1953-2021) as 28th Baron MOWBRAY, 29th Baron SEGRAVE and 25th Baron STOURTON in January this year but has yet to establish his claim and appear on The Peerage Roll. His mother is Penelope (Nell) Lucy (b 26 Oct 1953 reg Q4 Oxford) d of Peter Cameron Jamieson BRUNET (1921-91) of Jesus College, Oxford and (Enid) Barbara G GALE (b 1928 reg Q3 Glamorganshire).

Anna Maria R (b 1992 reg Q4 London) d of Edward C A SPARROW by his 1977 m (reg Q3 London) to Jane Ann Isabel JEFFERSON (b 1954 reg Q2 Surrey) d of Col Francis Joseph JEFFERSON (1922-85) by his c1952 m (reg Q1 London) to Maria Frances WILSON (b 1927)

This is some happy news following the death of the new peer's father in January. The convention is for a new peer not to assume the peerage style until after the funeral of the previous peer, which may explain the wording of the announcement.

Stourton spirits are on the up

Prince William’s pal James Stourton has lifted his family’s spirits by announcing his engagement just weeks after the sudden death of his father, Lord Mowbray, Segrave and Stourton.

Commodities trader James, 29, is to marry tax lawyer Anna Sparrow, 28. ‘James is sure his father would have been thrilled,’ one of his friends tells me. ‘He had told him about the engagement before his death.’

When James’s sister, Sarah, got married in 2011, Prince William was an usher, with the wedding reception held at the Stourton family’s Allerton Park estate in North Yorkshire. Sarah’s husband, Harry Aubrey-Fletcher, is the godfather of William and Kate’s son, Prince Louis.
