From the Times of 31 March 2026: GUNN James Mayo Alastair died peacefully on 20th March 2026, aged 100. Much loved by his large and expanding family. Funeral at Holy Cross Church, Epperstone, at midday on 18th April 2026. Donations to British Red Cross or Holy Cross Church.

He was s of Henry Somerville GUNN 1882-1966 of Badminton, Glos by his 1914 m to Margaret Aileen Constance WISE 1893-1976. 

He m first 1949 (div 1968) as her 1 h Jill Rosalind (Mrs Bryan Dodsworth) 1927-2017 d of Capt Charles BRUCE 1883-1958 (gs of 8 Earl of ELGIN & [12] KINCARDINE 1811-63) and Joan 1900-84 d of Isaac Newton WOODIWISS 1869-1947 scion of that gentry family of Bath and Maud Mary DYER 1871-1946, and had two sons and two daus. 

He m [second] 1982 reg Q3 Herefs&Worcs Rosemary C b c1952 reg Q1 Herefs&Worcs d of Michael Henry HUNTER 1927-88 of Escley House, Herefs by his 24 May 1951 m to Rosemary Claire BULL 1928-2011, and had a further son (Alastair Hunter b c1984 reg Q1 Notts) and a further dau (Claire Rebecca b 2 Oct 1985 (Times 5 Oct) reg Q4 Notts).

The late Col Gunn was a great-grandson of Henry Mayo GUNN (25 III 1817 - 21 V 1886) and his wife (married 24 V 1851), Isabella WILLS (24 I 1830 - 4 IV 1905), of that tobacco manufacturing family, a sister of Sir Frederick WILLS, 1st Bt, of Northmoor (22 XI 1838 - 18 II 1909), father of the 1st Baron Dulverton, and Sir Edward Payson WILLS, 1st Bt, of Hazelwood (12 VI 1834 - 13 III 1910).
