Edmund Arthur Lowndes de Waal, CBE (1964), ceramic artist and author of the extraordinary book "The Hare With Amber Eyes," is married to Susan Chandler, a descendant of the Buxton baronets. De Waal himself is a descendant, through female lines, of the Rothschild banking dynasty (not the peerage branch) and the once-mighty Ephrussi grain merchants of Odessa (whose history he recounts in the "Hare" book).
