Article on peerage titles in the Medieval period

Back in November 2024, this group was notified of Duncan Sutherland's lecture, "What's in a Name? How Peers Settled Their Titles in the Twentieth Century" at the IHR.

I recently found an interesting article by Tim Thornton, "Peerage Titles as Names and Their Implications for Dynastic Definition in Late Medieval and Early Modern England”, Viator, li, no 2 (2020), 389-431". It is on peerages titles in the medieval period, with some fascinating background in relation to power and authority. 

I have attached a PDF for those interested in reading it, since it was available online.
