In a peer coaching group format, do all members always have to get equal time in the meetings? No.

In demonstrations of a peer coaching group format, I’m afraid that I end up mistakenly conveying that each member always has to get equal time in every meeting in a program.

Some of that misconception comes from our always using equal time in the peer coaching group format in our virtual workshop.  We do that only so each member gets an equal chance to experience getting coached and doing coaching.

However, there could be unequal time in a meeting if, e.g.:

1.     The group coaching program’s primary application is an Intact team working on the same project schedule

and

2.     2. All members have agreed in a meeting that:

   a.     One or more members has to produce a deliverable
   b.     That is scheduled to be delivered
   c.      Before other members’ deliverables.
   d.     So now, in that particular meeting, those one or more members gets more time than others in the meeting.

In that case, the allocation of time is based on a mutually agreed-to and explicit indicator, e.g., a project schedule.

It is not based on a highly subjective indicator, such as a member’s crying, or a member’s saying they don’t really have anything important to get coached on now and so they want to give away some of their time.

However, experience has repeatedly shown that it sustains strong attendance to meetings if everyone gets SOME time in all meetings.

Thanks!
