Peer Learning Network

Contact owners and managers

Welcome!

What is the purpose of this list?

The group is public - anyone can join.  Posts are moderated.  By default, all members get posts via a daily digest that includes the posts for that day.

Who is managing this group? Moderating posts?

The group is currently a collaboration between Action Learning Source and the Peer Learning Network.  Carter McNamara, Teri McNamara and Chuck Appleby of Action Learning Source are developing and moderating the group for now.

How does one become a member?

If you already have a Google account (e.g., signed up with gmail, Google Docs, Google Groups, etc.), then:

  1. Go to https://groups.google.com/d/forum/peer-learning-network
  2. Click on "Apply for membership"
  3. Enter your preferred display name, email delivery preference and answer the introductory question.
  4. Click "Apply to join this group"

Otherwise it takes 2-3 minutes to set up a Google account at Google's Account Creation page and you only do it once.  You can associate your account with any preferred email address that you have.  Google asks for your phone number only to verify your account.  You can choose to restrict the information that Google collects about your online activities.  After you create your account, follow the procedure above.

What is the group’s email address?
peer-learning-network@googlegroups.com

You should add this to your contacts.

How can I send and receive posts?

You can email the post to the group’s email address, above. Or, you can log into
https://groups.google.com/d/forum/peer-learning-network
and participate via the web.

How can I search through earlier posts in this group?

Use the search bar at the top.

How do I manage the settings in my Google profile?

By default, all members receive recent posts via email with a digest of the day’s posts.  However, you can opt to receive each post right away, by logging in to your Google account, clicking on the small image of a gear in the upper right corner.  There, you will see your options.

What are the guidelines to posting?
  1. Focus discussion primarily on peer learning, peer coaching, group coaching and/or Action Learning.
  2. Make sure the subject line of your post conveys the content of your post.
  3. Use a brief introductory sentence that depicts the subject of your post.
  4. Write clearly and concisely – others' primary languages might not be English.
  5. Do not use CAPS - for many people, that suggests that you are screaming at them.
  6. Do not get personal – if you disagree, then explain your disagreement about the post.
  7. Do not copy entire posts – if you are responding to a post, only copy the relevant portion of it.
  8. If your post is primarily an advertisement, then start your subject line with “ADV:”
  9. Please do not send your very short replies, such as, “good point” or “I agree” to the entire list.  Those kinds of responses should be directly to the other person’s post.
  10. Be patient! – this group is not a classroom where a trainer immediately answers questions
