2017-18 PEEF Proposal Materials for 1st Reading

Dear PEEF CAC Members,

Thank you all for your hard work to review the 2017-18 PEEF Proposal materials and your thoughtful consideration in developing feedback and recommendations. Thank you also to Frances and Jenny for your leadership and work on finalizing the PEEF CAC Recommendation Memo.Attached is the 2017-18 Superintendent’s Proposal for the Public Education Enrichment Fund (PEEF) which includes a detailed budget for the entire PEEF allocation for the Sports, Libraries, Arts and Music (SLAM) and Other General Uses (Third-Third) program areas. The attached Proposal reflects the most recent estimate from the Controller’s Office received on December 6, 2016. The PEEF CAC's final recommendations and supporting materials are also attached.

With a projected increase in revenue, we have additional funding available for PEEF programs.  We have included $1.5 of new investments in the Other General Uses program area of PEEF intended to expand and deepen supports for students, including creating a Bayview Support Plan, expanding Family Academy, expanding Tier 3 supports for Early Education schools, and piloting elements of the Middle School Redesign project.

 

SFUSD Board Resolution No. 115-10A3 stipulates that the PEEF Community Advisory Committee will (1) review PEEF program information and data, (2) use this information and data to advise the Board of Education and Superintendent, and (3) contribute to PEEF communication and awareness. The resolution also stipulates that the CAC’s recommendations shall be aligned to and support one or more of the District Goals. The PEEF CAC has prepared their insights, feedback and recommendations (with staff support) for presentation to the Board and the Superintendent. The PEEF CAC has reviewed the 2017-18 PEEF Proposal, related materials, and requested information on January 11, January 25, February 8 and February 22 of this year. 

 

Thank you for your attention to PEEF and we look forward to our presentation and discussion at next week’s Augmented Board Meeting on March 14. For those members who are able to attend, please meet in the lobby at 5:30 to help plan for your presentation of feedback and recommendations. I will have materials ready for members.

Thank you, Kathy.  

It seems as though our 3/8 meeting is cancelled.  Can you confirm?  Apologies if I missed the memo.

I will line up time with my appointing supervisor.  I see that the edge was taken off of some of our stronger points, which makes sense for a public document.  I plan to re-sharpen that edge in my conversation with Stevon, but please let me know if the changes were made for other reasons (eg discoveries during the finalization process) so I can wrap that into our discussion.

I won't be able to attend next week's presentation, but I will be there in spirit!

The recommendations memo was written by co-chairs and staff using meeting notes on feedback  and discussion points that were supported by members and recommendations that were approved by vote. This concern can be put on the discussion for next regular meeting.  This email group is for information purposes and not meant to be a discussion forum per observation of the Brown Act.
