The Learning Design Support Environment (LDSE) project is funded by the EPSRC/ESRC under the Teaching and Learning Research Programme. The main focus of the project is to discover how to use digital technologies to support lecturers and teachers in designing effective technology-enhanced learning (TEL).
We will be working with academic staff to research, and co-construct, an interactive environment to enable lecturers to lead the discovery of innovative pedagogical designs that exploit the potential of TEL. The project is a collaboration between six HE institutions, with Birkbeck, London Metropolitan University, the London School of Economics, Oxford University, and the Royal Veterinary College. The post will be based at the London Knowledge Lab, a unique collaboration between two of the UK's most prominent centres of world-class research - the Institute of Education and Birkbeck.
A companion post for this project is being advertised by Birkbeck (http://jobs.bbk.ac.uk/fe/tpl_birkbeckcollege01.asp?newms=se).
For both posts we seek people with a commitment to research on the improvement of learning, who are willing to engage in an interdisciplinary team of social and computer scientists.
You will be responsible for one of the major streams of work in the project, on how to represent learning activities, and effective practice, and will report to the project director Professor Diana Laurillard. This will involve developing a model of the learning design process, and designing the community-based knowledge-building support, in collaboration with the other researchers.
You will need to have at least Master's level in education, cognitive science or another social science or relevant discipline. You will have a deep knowledge of the current issues in the field of learning with digital technologies, and of the literature on theories of learning and teaching. The ability to work in a team and have evidence of ability to conduct research and academic writing will also be essential for this role.
