Dear Carol,

Thank you so much for your support. As a WABA member, you are why we’re able to fight for a better transportation system, and imminently and strongly resist any threats to it. Unfortunately, we’re facing a large threat to safe streets right now, and we need your help.

As you may have already heard, WABA is looking at a massive fight to keep the 15th St. Bike Lane. We've heard strong rumors, from people we trust, that the feds plan to take out this protected bike lane from Constitution Ave to the 14th Street Bridge.

We know they are 'doing and asking permission later,' and we CANNOT let this bike lane be removed. This is the SPINE of the bike network – for Virginians, for people in DC, and for the many Marylanders (not to mention tourists) who use it too!

If you’re with us in this fight, here’s two things you can do right now:

  1. You can click here to sign up for a two-hour shift watching the bike lane. We need eyes on it throughout the day so that if/when the trucks show up to start removing it, we can alert members and start legal proceedings. We need people like you to ride up and down 15th Street between the Jefferson Memorial & Constitution Ave; and if you see trucks or construction equipment pull up, call us at 202-425-0627 so we can start our legal response.
  2. Make a contribution, of whatever amount you can, to WABA. This fight is for all of us who love biking and walking on safer, slower streets in the region, and it's going to take all the resources we can spare. We've engaged an elite legal firm, and we’re responding fast with all the time and energy this emergency deserves. And this isn’t just a local issue - if it’s happening here, we expect the feds to take these tactics across the country. Any amount you’re able to give makes a difference.

DONATE

Please write back to me if you have thoughts or questions, Carol, and thank you for everything you do as a WABA member, whether volunteering, donating, or speaking up for bicycling! We appreciate you, and we’re only asking again right now because of this unexpected, and expensive, fight we have in front of us.
