Sounds good. I hope the narrowing is safe. What we should really have them do in any case, shoulder or not, is post 15 mph speed limits through most of beach drive. Fixing the mess on the right side of the hill from East West would be helpful as well, but you still have to pull out into traffic when the sidewalk suddenly appears out of nowhere. 

Sometimes US engineering is marvelous and two seconds later it’s pure 💩 Zoning?

He couldn't explain why they want to narrow the road. Hooray for the pothole fix, though.   Be wary coming along this stretch. The narrowing is to save on maintenance costs according to two people with whom I have spoken. It is far too narrow to pass safely. Years ago, I attended a VDOT community meeting over what to do about the intersection of Shreve Road and the W&OD Trail. Someone in the audience suggested that they lower the speed limit, which was already 25, IIRC. The VDOT representative said that they had found that posting a lower speed limit has very little effect on traffic speed. It would be much better for the rangers to enforce the existing speed limit. That, however, would probably require funding from Congress for the part of the drive that's in Rock Creek Park. The law-and-order justification for everything touted by the ruling party doesn't seem to extend to the level of enforcing traffic laws -- unless it's against people they don't like anyway.

I rode north up Beach this morning and can confirm that the northbound lane is repaved from the DC line to a bit past Woodbine and they were working on that section (I assume north to E-W Hwy) this morning.  Hopefully the southbound land will get repaved quickly.  I am losing faith on being able to re-engineer drivers, but I am glad I won't have to run the Beach Dr. pothole-slalom course any more!
