Not exactly biking per se, but a large majority of folks in this group enjoy riding in the Ag Reserve and/or live in MoCo. Here’s a chance to be heard. Carol

Bring your concerns and community spirit to the barn at Bally Cliff Farm‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌   ‌

"Any jackass can kick down a barn, but it takes a good carpenter to build one."  ~ Sam Rayburn

We are hoping you can join us in the barn at Bally Cliff in Poolesville (above) this Sunday for a special event. While we won't be building a barn - we will gather to share concerns and solutions as we come together to discuss how the Ag Reserve survives and thrives amid new challenges. We will be taking concerns and ideas back to our elected leaders - your voice matters.  Let us know you are coming here.  Read on for more info.

What do you get when you combine a community potluck, a town hall / brainstorm, and an Ag Reserve story/song/poetry share - it's a Community Share-Along!

There are a number of new threats to local farms in the county and region, putting our heads and voices together will help. Come hear about new proposals and laws that will impact farms, forests and water resources, bring your questions and ideas and exchange ideas with neighbors.

Topics Will Include:

  • Solar on prime farmland
  • Data Centers
  • Drought and Groundwater Resources
  • Alcohol Production Facilities
  • Have other concerns? Please bring them!

We are hoping you can join us in person in the Barn at BallyCliff on Sunday -October 12 - National Farmer's Day- to celebrate the Ag Reserve and the farmers that make it thrive.

Please either bring a dish to share (extra points if they feature Ag Reserve products) and/or a shelf stable food donation for WUMCO (here are the things they are looking for).

Please sign up for tickets - space in the barn is limited. Kids are free.
If you were interested in presenting a family friendly song, story, dance, poem, etc as part of the program or displaying photos, painting or other art in the space- don't be shy!-  contact Kris...@mocoalliance.org

Reserve Your Seat

Read on for more from our ED Caroline on how the event came about:

The idea for the Community Share-Along (Oct. 12)  stemmed from my personal experience attending a wonderful storytelling event in Barnesville years ago. It was a small affair at Barnesville town hall, but well attended by both farmers and Reserve residents. Folks of all stripes came together to share stories- poignant, educational, uplifting, and often hilarious. I think of this gathering these days as I realize that we are increasingly siloed off, from our neighbors and our decision makers, resulting in a lack of mutual understanding and missed opportunities for collaboration. Little ones and their joyful art of any kind are welcome!!
So bring your
banjo, poem, tale, cartoon, or skit, and know that we will make time to have substantive conversation as well. Reserve your spot here.

With Appreciation,

Let's put our heads together on the issues impacting local farms hope you can join us.  (photo: Susan Eskite)

The Orchards are Open

Though peaches are just a sweet memory,  is still orchard season in the Reserve - check out the list of great places to find local produce. We are firmly in apple and pumpkin season now- the perfect complement to pulling the sweaters out of storage - some locations even have pies, jams and cider. How lucky are we? Always best to call ahead to be sure your favorites are available.

The Driest August in 150 years - recent rains helped just a bit

We welcome the rain, but don't let your guard down. Central Maryland is under a drought watch. Voluntary water conservation strongly encouraged! In the Ag Reserve, farms and homes rely solely on groundwater wells, with no possibility of backup reservoir planning like WSSC is doing. Our Good Gift Groundwater Campaign is gathering stakeholders and preforming outreach to protect water resources for 1/3rd of the county.

Land Link is Growing!

Land Link Montgomery matches aspiring farmers with local landowners offering long term leases to overcome astronomical land prices and get the next generation of farmers growing. This summer has seen lots of new farmers and landowners join the program.  Meet our Land Link members - can your land host a farmer?
