Rubbing alcohol on bike tires before ride

Somebody mentioned this.  Is it really a thing?

It may be a “thing” but it is not a “thing” I would endorse.  The alcohol will likely have some side effect of drying and hardening the tread by attacking the plasticizers in the rubber compound.  Isopropyl alcohol is commonly used as a drying agent because it combines well with water and the combination still evaporates quickly.

I am not certain there is a need for more than water and a brush.
