This is a question for you in the group who've had cataract surgery. How soon did your doc say you could resume cycling, either outdoors or indoors? I'll ask my doc on Thursday, of course, and I've read a bit online already. But I'm curious what those in the group have been told about both indoor and outdoor post-op surgery. Thanks!

In my case it was a week or less, but my opthamologist said make sure I
keep the exertion level / blood pressure down, so I rode a route that
skipped anything that looked like a hill.

Bernie, Steve, et al -

Thanks for all the great discussion about cycling and cataract surgery. To comment on and answer some of the responses ... I had the right eye done yesterday and the left eye will be done Wednesday. I am having distance lenses - Toric - for both. The difference already in the right eye is amazing. As I type this, I've got a contact lens in the left eye and I'm wearing OTC reading glasses, which I'll need anytime from now on I'm on the laptop, tablet, etc... but anything that's about 2.5 feet away is read better with the "new right eye" without the reading glasses. So as far as cycling goes, I think I'll be able to read my Wahoo (sub. your Garmin) just fine. As for post-op exercise, I saw my doc today and she said the main concern is not getting sweat in your eyes and no exertion that might cause eye muscle strain - or have your head in a downward position. So, no downward dogs and no weights more than 35 pounds, she said. (I'm thinking, what a relief, no 35 lb. curls for a while.) So, in general, I'm thinking I'll use the indoor bike for a while, keep the watts below 200, use a towel for the sweat and everything will be fine. Then I'll be able to get on the road bike at the end of the month. Again, thanks for the comments.
