"Whistleblower says DOT kept important truck safety info from the public"
https://wapo.st/4aiDF84Those of you who remember the death of Sarah Langenkamp may be interested by this article about a researcher who said he found that side guards on trucks in combination with aerodynamic fairings produced fuel savings that recouped the cost of the guards. Underride crashes are still a problem. Just in the past week, there was a crash in New Jersey in which a 15-year-old girl was crushed by a passing truck. The article said that the initial investigation found the truck did not come into contact with the cyclist, but it smells very odd that a girl would simply fall under a truck's rear wheels, especially if the truck were passing at a reasonable distance. At the time the article was published, the victim was in critical condition; since it came to my attention through a Google alert, I have no further information.
