Anyone done this route lately? How is it? I was thinking of leading it May 2. I see the route spends a lot of time on Rt. 40:

Would you recommend it? Looking for 50ish mile routes the club doesn't do much these days.

Also, I've been leading Saturday rides at B/CC pace (13 mph average) in out of remote places in Maryland. Doesn't look like there's appetite for this kind of ride in Virginia. I would lead if I thought folks would come -- who ride at this pace. (Mike M leads a lot of Virginia rides, but they are 14+ mph or faster; I'm looking to see if there are riders interested in a more reasonable pace who want to ride in Virginia -- particularly off of I-66, e.g., starting in places like Plains, Marshall, or closer to Warrenton.

Really good riding out there in the Increasingly Blue State.

Rita,

I don't recall this being a PPTC ride. Generally, routes avoided going through Frederick. (The Blair Witch Ride was an exception.) Route 40 has shoulders but is busy and much steeper than what RideWithGPS shows.

I tried to modify the route to eliminate most of 40 but it became very hilly (e.g. climbing up Shookstown).

There are better routes out of Point of Rocks or Ballinger Creek Park that could be modified to do some of your route.

Okay,

This route is quite close to one of Gene Dare & Barry Goldfarb’s rides and you will find some variants with my name in RWGPS.  It is a great ride, but out of Wolfsville we tend towards Pleasant Walk to Canada Hill to Grindstone Run and Monument rejoining her route South of Myersville.  This is for scenery and quiet roads.

I was told today that Manor Woods is open so this routes return will work.  I have a slight preference for using Hollow under 70 across to 40 to connect with Ridge/Maryland to Mt Zion and then Cap Stine to Manor Woods to Michaels Mill.  But I am not wed to any of this.

It is a great ride.  DeLaughter’s is open, the little shop in Wolfsville has not been able to survive.
