Subject: Details for Davey' Hearn's Arraignment - 9/9/2026

Hello, friends of Davey!

Thank  you all who were ablet  to attend last night's meeting. Your input was great and ... we will not be able to address each concern that was voiced. Please  know we read the comments and have adjusted our logistics expectations accordingly.

The arraignment is (still) set for tomorrow, Thursday, July 9 at 9:30 am.
Check the schedule that is updated each morning around 7:30 to confirm the time.
Instructions for us, a Mixed Group of Paddlers and Peddlers:

  • Gather on the sidewalk outside the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, 500 Indiana Ave., NW, beginning shortly after 8:00 am. There is a park across the street if we spill over.

  • The dress code is red white and blue.  Please come as early as you can between the time frame of 8:00-9:45. The closest Metro stop is Judiciary Square. Paddlers will be offered CCA race bibs as a means to identify paddlers you do not know. PLEASE return them to one of the people handing them out.

  • We MUST not impede pedestrians on our sidewalk: this might be easy to forget.  We will have a few bright / fluorescent safety vests for people who volunteer to be 'marshals' - keeping us in line close to the building side/inside of the sidewalk.
The courthouse opens for security at 8:30.  The courtroom is small, accommodating 30-40.  Friends of Davey are not encouraged to go inside. We can all listen via Webex!
Here is the WebEx information:

The lawyers will emerge for remarks immediately after the arraignment.  If you bring a sign, make it one that uplifts Davey and does not dump on Trump.

Making a sign?
  • Keep your message POSITIVE: this is all about Davey and our voice on his behalf:
Justice for Team USA’s Davey Hearn
An American Hero deserves American Justice
He represented us. Now we stand for him.

You might highlight Davey's accomplishments:
3 Olympics
13 World Championships
28  National Championships
  • DO NOT let yourself get carried away with the larger context of the allegations against him: NO dumping, playing on bad words, people or policies. Please.
  • Consider NOT using a post/stick but just hold your sign or plackard, or wear it as necklace or sandwich board.
Big thanks to Doug Scott and Janice Stoodley who put this information together for the cyclists in the DC area.
See you tomorrow on the first day of a journey we hope you will continue to support,

Risa Shimoda and Bill Endicott
...and a bunch of smart, talented and caring friends
