Well, I'm glad they got the beer thrower/knife puller.  What an idiot to lose your phone too.

In other twitter posts  from the victim -

- he makes mention of e-bike "class 3" going faster than his e-bike on Mount Vernon Trail            (hey - aren't all E-BIKES/scooters banned on MVT anyways?).

- posts picture of poorly aligned from end headlight pointing directly into oncoming trail traffic.  (pet peeve of mine)

I had a new experience on Sunday while riding up a hill on Coppermine Rd just east of Woodsboro, MD.  I was the trailing rider in a group of three and was on the far right side of the roadway (no shoulder) climbing a hill when a pickup truck overtook us at a fairly good rate of speed.  There was no oncoming traffic and this is a straight road with good sightlines.  It honked as it approached and then I felt myself get smacked on the back as it passed.  As it proceeded by I saw a guy hanging out of the passenger side window and he had yelled something undecipherable as they passed.  Luckily I wasn’t injured in any way and didn’t go down, but I dare say it wasn’t a “love tap”.

I just ordered a Fly12 (the front-facing camera) and need to go to Bikenetic in Falls Church to pick it up.  They are a local dealer.

This purchase was prompted by: (1) My front light was stolen when I forgot to take it off a bicycle parked near the White House for a few hours in the middle of the afternoon (2) I was recently involved in a car vs bike crash and the driver was going to deny responsibility. ("The bicyclist came out of nowhere.") Luckily, she pleaded guilty to the traffic violation ("failure to yield", I believe).  I was right-hooked, so it's unclear to me whether either a front-facing or rear-facing camera would have captured the incident.  Hmm, maybe a rear would have a better chance.

The front will show a right hook where the driver at least partially passes you before turning right. It wouldn't necessarily capture the car if they turned into you while you were still ahead of or even with the front of the car, but I wouldn't call that a right hook. In any case it would show where you were positioned on the road and capture any impact or fall.

This video shows a right hook from both my rear and front cameras. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6D91sfZ_ec. The rear camera doesn't show much of anything, the front camera is what works for this type of event. The audio is muted right after the hook for reasons you can probably imagine. :-)

I was running 2 cams when 1 cam became popular.  Then I saw this 2 cam fad coming.

Since more is better - I went to 5 cams. The side angle is great to have.

I did not mute the video. Apologies for 1 cuss word.

(only 3 cams used for this video).

I can only guess they looked right when rolling up, saw the coast was clear, looked hard left, saw no one coming, and missed little ole me in the middle.

Five cameras!  You are a two-wheeled google maps vehicle!  Post a picture.  I am dying to see your setup!

Question for folks that have one of there: How quick and easy is it to pop off for charging and to transfer from one bike to another?  Does the mount stay on the bike (requiring separate mounts for each bike) or does the whole thing come off like a rubber band and just snap onto the other bike?

The front and rear Cycliq cameras both use a 1/4 turn mount, but the connection of that mount to the bike is different on each. Both go on and off the bike for charging very easily by simply turning them 1/4 turn in the right direction.

For the rear, the mount is on a velcro strap attached to the seatpost, so while it's convenient to have more than one if you switch bikes daily, it isn't that hard to move from bike to bike.

The front camera comes with a plastic 1/4 turn mount that attaches directly to the handlebars but I've heard mixed reviews on the durability of that mount. It also comes with a 1/4 turn to GoPro adapter that lets you attach the camera to any GoPro mount. On several bikes I have an aluminum mount (Duo Mount from Cycliq, but similar ones are made by others) that mounts my Garmin on top and the camera below using the adapter.  On other bikes I use a stand-alone aluminum GoPro mount. The 1/4 turn to GoPro adapter is attached with a thumb screw, so it takes only a few seconds to move the adapter from bike to bike, assuming you have a GoPro mount on each bike.

Extra mounts are a bit over-priced on their site. I ended up with spare mounts from warranty exchanges on each light. They have you send back the light but not the mounts, so hope for a defective unit and you can get extra mounts for the price of a trip to the post office :-) Based on my experience with two generations of the Cycliq lights you should expect to have to replace them under warranty... maybe more than once... but they pay return shipping and have quickly replaced everything that had issues during the warranty period. My Fly12CE went back once and I think on my 3rd Fly 6CE.

I wouldn’t leave anything valuable on my bike near the White House.  I heard Jared Kushner is a klepto.

That bar at the end of your rear rack is interesting.  It looks like it holds several lights.  Is that its function?

5 cameras!  You’re the James Cameron of cyclists.  If you could just add an overhead drone with a down-facing wide-angle cam J
