I've been wanting to replace my Bomar hatches for years now, but when I called Bomar they where no help on helping me with sizes/measurements. I got the numbers off the stickers, but was told they're serial numbers only and no help.

Has anyone here replaced theirs already, and if so, would you know the measurements I need to buy new ones?

The measurements of got from the inside for the bigger V-berth hatch are:

20 3/8" from bow to stern:  20" wide port to starboard.

I don't have the 2 smaller ones available, but they're about 10"x10".

Any help or suggestions would be welcome!

THANKS!!!

The west marine web site lists some bomar hatches that are close to the sizes you mention, have you looked there?

I've seen those and many others, but the issue for me is not being close, but exact. If I can get a PERFECT match, then it's a very easy job, but just too big or small, and it becomes a major job. So I'm looing for anyone that has actually replaced theirs and the issues they faced.

thanks again for the link!

measure twice, cut once.

The reality is event with an exact replacement you'll still have some work to do. Any balsa core needs to be removed and replaced with epoxy fill for at least a 1/2 inch back from the edge of the hole. It's also likely the factory hole wasn't cut precisely] and will require some rework.

It adds to the jobe, but well worth the extra labor in the long run.

thanks for the heads up. I was thinking I could do an easy swap with the right one, but I understand what you're saying. This is the kind of advice I'm in need of.

What is your intent in replacing the hatches? If the lens are crazed, you can easily replace them...I ask because ours don't yet seem to have cause for any attention .

to be honest, I just want NEWER vs OLD!!!  The old one weighs a lot more, and the lifts are a REAL PAIN to tighten and loosen when keeping the hatch open. I called Bomar about just changing the lifts to a newer style, but they told me there was no way.

I have been researching hatch replacement for my P323.  Bomar was somewhat helpful in advising me that the replacement hatch should be within 1/2" for the hole cutout and should be an exact match on the corner radius. I have not been able to find any hatches that will fit those specs for my boat -- except for the original Bomars which can be special ordered from Pompanette (very expensive).

guess I'll have to wait till I measure again this spring before proceeding. Didn't know about the corner radius measurement. I guess we're both looking for someone who may have found a cheaper replacement.

thanks for the info!!!
