Hi All -

On Compass Rose, our 1988 31-2, the front right (starboard, fore...hey, I'm a car guy too) motor mount is broken.
This is the Yanmar 2GM20F.

Looking at the parts listings around the web, I see two different mounts listed.

128377-08340   MOUNTING, FLEX.75

128377-08350   MOUNTING, FLEX.100

I don't know which of the two sizes goes with this one, and cannot tell from the diagrams.

I'm trying to avoid a 5 hour R/T drive to the boat to measure it, or improve my guessing ability.

Any help would be, well, helpful.

Ty

Here is a picture of it in better days, and the second picture last weekend. You can see the break on the left side rubber piece and the top plate is bent a bit.

Ask whoever you're buying the mounts from which is the one to use.  If they are a dealer, they should have that information or be able to get it.

Gentlemen,

Sometime ago, I offered everyone a digitized copy of the Yanmar service manual, but I can't find any info about the placement of the flexible engine mounts in the older printed manual.

Looking on the internet, I was reminded that the Yanmar mounts for 3GM30Fs are different and pairs are made for use in the front of the engine and different ones for the back.

The stiffness of the Yanmar flexible mounts for a 3GM30F are 75 and 100 with the 100 mounts in the front and the 75s in the back. I believe this is due to thrust of the drive train pushing forward when driving the boat.

Part number

Motor Mounts Front (these are the 100 marked flexible mounts)
124772-08341
Motor Mounts Front (these are the 100 marked flexible mounts)
124772-08341
Motor Mounts Rear (these are the 75 marked flexible mounts)
128270-08340
Motor Mounts Rear (these are the 75 marked flexible mounts)
128270-08340

I got this info from the internet and it jibes with what I was told several years ago by a knowledgeable Yanmar mechanic.

I have a newer Yanmar service manual and have attached page 17 read the "Note" and look at the top view diagram as it shows the placement of the different flexible mounts for several Yanmar models.

If anyone wants the full 8mb manual, PM me and I will send it via WeTransfer.

George

Hi Ty,

Look at the charts on this attachment. It is clear that you need to by two different sets of Yanmar mounts. 2 - 100s and 2 - 75s. The placement is clearly described.

Other makes of engine mounts may work, but then all four might be the same stiffness and that isn't what Yanmar specifies.

Hope this helps.

Thank You!
That is exactly what I needed.

BTW, we think the mount broke when the engine suddenly stopped.....about the time the anchor rode (1/2" 3-strand nylon) wrapped nice and tight around the prop shaft.
That in itself is another story, but a huge lesson learned for me.

Luckily only my pride, the rode, and the mount were damaged.
