Last yr I posted a pic of my not working steaming light to get the brand. The brand was Perko. We replaced the cruddy one with a new one but when we launched the boat last wk the new light still didn't work.  My thoughts were, maybe the led bulb needed to be reversed,so....up the mast I went to flip it. Bummer, it still didn't work. I went to my mast pwr harness inside the boat and it "looked' ok. Further inspection proved that some of my wires that looked fine were indeed wobbly.  I tighten them down and reversed the polarity of the wires to the steamer and Eureka, we were up and running.
Attached is our present light connector for the steamer and anchor light. I am guessing when the guys unplug the mast.in the fall at hall-out time they pull the wires and not the black plug, hence the wires being pulled out.
What connectors to other keel stepped Pearson's have? Pics? It seems that other brands use a bus but they were deck stepped not keel stepped. It would be interesting to see how others have updated.

I should clarify, I use SAE connectors at the actual lamps (eg spreaders) because like you there’s a good chance they’ll be abused at the yard.   At the mast base I use heat shrinked female spade quick disconnects (male connectors on a BlueSeas bus) for all the mast stuff so I can share a ground wire.

I keep rebuilding my original Perko running lights. Went with LEDs and the new LEDs seem really bright.

Sometimes it is good to rewire the mast...LOL

All the lamps on Skylark's mast have their own ground and the numbered connections to the boat are at the bottom of the mast with the connectors up out of the bilge.

To /further/clarify, :) my shared ground (actually neutral) goes from the bus back to the battery, not up the mast.

Thanks for the reply. Do you see any reason I couldn't/shouldn't use the same concept as you suggested but have it plugged in using a trailer connector?
My wires coming from the mast are x2 gray,x2 black and labeled 1,2,3,4 but that is all. I assume the gray is considered hot and the black ground. The other side of the plug is x2 red and x2 black. I guess using the plugs you suggested might identify easier? What I have works but the boatyard guys pull the wires out b/c they pull the wires, not the plug.

Like a 5 pole one?  I don’t see any issue.

Thnx, that is what I was thinking also.
I would just need to figure out the different color schematics when hooking up cuz I have gray & black coming from the mast (assume gray is + and black is ground) and red and black (red is + and black is -) coming from the battery. I had to switch the + & - for the new.light cuz it is an led and I had to reverse the polarity. Just wasn't sure if the polarity gets reversed on the mast side of the circuit or the battery side of the circuit. I did the battery side and it is finally working.
