I don't know if holding tanks were an option in 1974.
It's a good idea to change the output hoses from the toilet.

My tank appears to be a plastic ‘cube’ in a tray held in place by the hoses and gravity. Is this the stock configuration? It has 2 vents on the opposite top corners that tee into a single line up to the starboard bow.I want to replace the tank as I’m sure it’s permeated (u less it’s supposed to be green-ish. Curious if there’s a drop-in option out there?Jeff
