Our boat was on the hard and had not been used for quite some time. We've decided to replace all plumbing from the water tanks (we're happy with these for now) to each sink.

Do you have any exciting product finds? Hints, tips, words of caution, or advice?

Has anyone used the Sharkbite brand and is happy with it?

Thank you,
SV Aurora - Pearson 31-2 Hull #117

Tip/Advice - I used pex tubing and Watts PVC push-to-connect fittings.
Caution - European pex is not sized the same as USA pex.  More and more stuff is coming from Europe pre-plumped with push-to-connect fittings, if you use USA sized pex you'll need adaptors (easy to find online).
Caution - Push-to-connect fittings (whether Sharkbite or Watts or otherwise) will break/split when they freeze so make sure you drain your system properly for winter (look for fittings in low spots especially) or winterize it.

I completely replaced all of my fresh water pipes and fittings about 2 years ago.  The Pex pipe worked really well and the shark bite fittings have been reliable so far.  This stuff is so easy to work with.  Agree with the freezing precautions mentioned earlier.

I have been thinking about this upgrade on my boat. The old system has a leak and the galley faucet needs replacement. The one sticking point is how to attach PEX to the existing water tanks. Did you just slide the PEX over the nipple and use a hose clamp, a copper collar, a plastic collar, a clamp collar,  or some special interface?

Thanks,
Jeff

I used a short piece of hose and two clamp collars to connect each nipple to a barbed 3/4” FPT coupler

Pex is great stuff.  Sharkbites work but they can be expensive.  Dont overlook the expansion fittings and the pinch/cinch fittings.  The Pex that Menards is selling now can be used with expansion and pinch/cinch fittings.  Its all type A.  Type A is more flexible.

Once you've done the expansion fittings you wont want to use anything else.  But the powered expansion tool is expensive.   I bought a small Milwaukee set several years ago.  If you need to plumb more than the boat, consider it.
I think the stainless cinch  ring tool is pretty cheap. $30 or so.   If i didnt have the expansion tool, id use those before sharkbites.  The stainless cinch rings are also removable, which is an advantage.  But the expansion fittings with a powered tool is so easy it feels like cheating.
