I have to go under at high tide so it's a little too close for comfort it doesn't look like the antenna will clear it.    What site did you get that information from?

Not sure if this helps or not, but the "I" for the 10M (also 33 LOA) is 44.0 (standard mast).

I know this must be true because I read it on Dan's 10M site.

This was also on his site:

Mast height from water = 48' (TM 50')
Top of antena from water = 52'

Again, not sure if this helps.

Related to the "ball bag" issue, I've heard of a very enterprising individual at a bascule bridge in Florida that will strap 55 gallon drums to one side deck (port or starboard, depending on which direction you are heading), pumps them full of water so the boat heels over, then drains them once the boat has passed under the bascule bridge to the other side.

All for a tidy sum I'm sure.

Wrong boat.  That's for the P32.  There is no entry for mast height for the 33-2.   The I is listed as 43.5.   Thats probably halyard sheave to deck but I have seen various definitions of I.  I would measure as Mike R suggested.   Hoist a tape and measure to the water.  Add 4 feet for antennas.  You will probably just squeek by but I wouldn't try without a measurement.

Hello,

Does anybody know the Mast Height for a 1987 Pearson 33-2?  The reason I ask is because I have to clear a 51 foot bridge in a couple of weeks and I want to know if I can make it under without destroying the boat.  Also, when measuring mast height, does it include the hull above the water line?

Thanks in advance.

But a 10M is not a P33-2.  Measure, measure, measure.  Hoist a tape on the spin halyard (which will be highest) and measure to the water.   Then add 4 feet to cover antennas and such.  And if that get's you to 51' I would be mighty warry of that bridge.  A modest wake while pasing under could ruin your day.

I know a guy who was sailing his Cape Dory Typhoon on a river and thought since he was nicely heeled he could slip under a railroad bridge.  Would have worked too except for the wind shadow under the bridge.  He lost the wind and his heel and got the mast head stuck so it was sticking up between the RR tracks.  He was able to get free before a train came.  Too bad.   It would have been a better story had he lost the mast head to the one after 909.

you better get to know, your mast height..."

I would have liked some pictures if that.
