Well that depends on whether you still have the rudder with the aluminum stock. When I bought my 1971 P26, Hull # 226, it was with the aluminum stock and it was badly pitted. I tried to repair it- A waste of $400. In the end I bought a used rudder with the SS stock on it. The newer rudder is also smaller and the boat is better balanced (less weather helm) the newer rudder seems to be configured better.

What type of boat did your new rudder come from?
What type of boat did your new rudder come from?
There was a machine shop in Gloucester that made some SS shafts for a sailboat livery that had a bunch of P-26s. They apparently mated the SS shaft and the aluminum original which apparently was hollow. I don’t know how they handled any electrolysis issues.

I know the first 200 P30's had aluminum rudder posts which were recalled and replaced with SS, not sure about the P26's though..

Yikes! My P26 is a 1970 hull #154. Is this a usual problem with P26's? I sail in fresh water.

I was hoping to not have to purchase a new rudder for $1600+ for a Pearson 26 I just purchase. We snapped the rudder off on the maiden voyage :/ If I can't find one to purchase, does anyone have a blueprint and tips on building one myself?
Thanks for the info!
