So, Hull #1 is up for sale in Northern Michigan.

She's got a large area of delamination a stern of the engine water inlet/outlets. It appears salvageable and I am considering getting into it.

I am confused about one thing though. This hull should have a deep sump, all the way down the back of the keel. Common feature between the 422 and 424 as they share the same hull. On this particular boat, the bilge pump is not in the deep sump and there is a holding tank in the middle of the boat, just about where the deep bilge should be, in front of the engine. Is it possible that the owner instructed the yard to turn the deep bilge into a holding tank?

has anyone seen this?

The large fiberglass tank that occupies the lower bilge is the 160 gallon water tank. If you look at the aft end of this tank you will see the access to the lower bilge where it runs down and under the water tank. There is usually an automatic bilge pump in the upper bilge that is accessed beneath the dinette. Another automatic bilge pump can be placed in the lower bilge. The manual bilge pump located in the floor of the cockpit runs to the lower bilge. The large volume manual bilge pump located under the navigation station settee also runs to the lower bilge.

We have owner Mañana, 1985 sloop, hull #24 for 20 years. We can provide detailed information as we have refurbished practically everything.

We have owned Hull #2 since new for the past 30 years. Our fresh water tank is located in front of the access ladder. And you can look through an inspection glass located  under one of the floor inspection hatchs. As you move further toward the stern right in front of, and far below the transmission is where our automatic bilge pump is located. We do not have any tanks that I am aware of in this area. Hopefully that helps a bit.

Leedawg, where are you located? It's great that you have owned your Pearson 422 since new. It would be interesting to see pictures of a one owner 422! What is your sail rig and what modifications have you made over the years?

We had hull 22 for 10 years and the deep sump was right below the
transmission like the last poster said....
